What’s Wrong With My iPhone?

5 Common iPhone Repairs

Very quickly our devices have become our mini sidekicks.

They’re there to keep us in contact with each other 24/7, make sure we stay organized, provide us with the ability to take photography worthy photos and the list goes on!

It’s no surprise that we demand a lot from these tiny-handheld-supercomputers, therefore we have to keep in mind that sometimes they have some demands of their own.

We’re here to walk you through 5 common repairs to improve your iPhone, when it’s asking for some extra attention.

Battery Issues

A brand new battery is made to last roughly 3-5 years depending on personal usage.

As the battery approaches the end of it’s lifespan customers can expect to begin experiencing rapid battery drain, and as it begins to get worse you may even notice that your battery percentage may jump (example: showing 70% and quickly dropping down to 10%).

Eventually the battery reaches the point where it is no longer able to hold a charge.

Broken Screen

It’s no surprise that this is the most common repair we see at mobilemend.

What may come as a surprise to some are the symptoms beyond a typical cracked screen that may still be screen related…

Our iPhone screens are made up of two layers, the top is referred to as the digitizer.

When the screen has been broken yet still functions perfectly, or we begin to run into touch issues, we know the drop has impacted the digitizer.

The second layer is referred to as the LCD, this is what controls the image aspect of the screen. When the LCD has been impacted you may begin experiencing coloured lines running through the screen and in some cases image loss all together.

Many customers explain that their device is continuing to send them notification sounds, yet they can’t see anything on the screen, a very common symptom of a broken LCD.

Charge Port Cleanout

Many of our customers are surprised (and maybe even a little grossed out) when they hear that their charge port just needed a thorough cleanout.

When we toss our devices in our pockets or bags it doesn’t take much for lint and other debris to sneak its way in and clog up the charge port.

You may notice that your charging cable refuses to sit snug inside the port, demanding to be “wiggled” into place.

In some cases of extreme buildup the charging cable may no longer connect.

Charge Port Replacement

Piggy-backing off of the charge port cleanout mentioned above, another common iPhone repair is a charge port replacement. This can be tricky to differentiate as the symptoms of a cleanout and replacement are generally the same.

A replacement is commonly in order when there has been strain placed on the port.

Example : the device was charging and got bumped, causing the charging cable to shift inside of the port and cause trauma to the delicate pins inside

iPhone Reboots & Software Updates

With all of the daily tasks our iPhones perform it’s important to remember that sometimes they also get exhausted. Sure they don’t require a full 8 hours, however there are simple tips you can follow to make sure they’re operating to their fullest potential.

If you’ve ran into issues with applications not functioning properly, bluetooth problems, lagging or other odd symptoms that you just can’t seem to figure out the cause of, it may be as simple as the following…

1. Reboot the device, fully power it off and back on. This is a great habit to practice at least once a week.

2. Check for software updates in your settings, if your device has not been updated recently it may be in need of the latest version available.

3. Clear out all background applications, leaving these applications running in the background can cause your device to perform slower and drain faster.
